Our growing team is seeking a Paralegal to support our legal team with contract management, research and legislation tracking.

In this position, you will:

  • Triage and prioritize requests for legal assistance including Requests for Proposals, Powers of Attorney, Trust documents, Contracts, Subpoenas, and VFIOA requests 
  • Draft correspondence, presentations, and reports, including contract renewals, termination letters, and agency information emails
  • Communicate with third parties regarding contract administration and negotiation
  • Maintain multiple tracking systems for department documents, projects, priorities, and deadlines and ensure deadlines are met timely
  • Analyze and prepare responses to extension requests, VFOIA requests and customer estate issues
  • Provide project management and editing for program description reviews
  • Monitor, research, track, analyze, and report on federal and state legislative issues that impact Virginia529  

Successful candidates will have:

  • Associate degree and paralegal certification or Bachelor’s degree preferred; a comparable combination of education, certification and experience will be considered
  • Related experience in a legal department, law firm, or government agency
  • Strong legal skills in the areas of liability and risk management
  • Experience providing administrative support to executive-level employees
  • Experience preparing agendas, taking minutes, and distributing related documents
  • Experience reviewing legal documents and legislation, and performing legal research
  • Familiarity with government processes, protocols, and public relations techniques preferred
  • In depth knowledge of the provisions of 26 U.S.C. §529 and 529A and related regulations and notices in Virginia Code § 23.1-700 et seq.
  • Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to independently manage multiple tasks with tight deadlines and attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, Board members, and the general public in writing and orally
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding sensitive topics
  • Analytical ability in order to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various administrative problems, and prioritize work
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and independent, critical thinking abilities

Work Environment:

  • This position works a hybrid schedule, with a few days per week onsite at our office
  • Typical office environment with considerable time in a sitting, stationary position
  • Must be able to occasionally move about the office to retrieve files and documents
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment including typing and keying
  • Occasional travel required
