We are hiring a Software Developer with experience or education in building full stack code including front-end, middleware, and cloud technologies. This role will provide software solutions that anticipate customer needs, drive the customer experience, and contribute to brand satisfaction. In this position, you will:

  • Build full-stack user experiences that tackle real customer needs and achieve agency goals
  • Design and develop software utilizing a variety of technologies including Angular, REST APIs, microservices, and container architectures
  • Convert requirements into functional requirements to develop software code that is efficient and reliable
  • Optimize user experience and resolve user interface challenges through the use of design patterns and responsive development thinking
  • Analyze complex changes to ensure the applications meet functionality, scalability, and performance standards
  • Perform code maintenance including debugging and updating to keep pace with the evolving environment
  • Assist in planning for future applications based on new developments in computer technology
  • Provide software development operational support associated with existing applications
  • Proactively identify potential issues and perform root cause analyses to mitigate risks and minimize the reoccurrence of technical issues  
  • Continuously develop your skills through agency-paid professional development opportunities

Successful candidates will have:

  • An undergraduate degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field
  • 1-5 years of experience developing software involving multiple technologies and interfaces; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience in or knowledge of building applications using REST APIs, AWS, microservices, serverless applications, feature flags, and/or container architecture
  • Experience or knowledge of some of the following: Node Express and/or GraphQL, HTML, PHP, CSS, XML, JavaScript and/or Typescript, JSON, JAVA and/or PL/SQL
  • Experience in or knowledge of Integrated Development Environments such as SQL Developer, Visual Studio Code, or some equivalent
  • Experience in or knowledge of Test automation tools, such as Test Café, Newman and Postman, and methodologies such as Test Driven Development, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, Automated Testing
  • Experience in or knowledge of product management methodologies (e.g. Agile Scrum, Kanban).
  • Familiar with Windows operating system
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to identify, formulate and solve software engineering problems
  • Broad knowledge of current technology and best practices
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, sufficient to explain complex technical problems to diverse audiences

Work Environment:

  • Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, all Virginia529 employees are working remotely. We anticipate moving to a hybrid work schedule once it is safe to reopen the office.
  • Works in a typical office environment with considerable time in a sitting, stationary position.
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office equipment including typing and keying
  • Frequently communicate with team members and business leaders; must be able to exchange accurate information accordingly
  • Occasional travel required
