Qualified Higher Education Expenses

Congress recently modified the definition of a qualified higher education expense to include, if certain conditions are met, computers, educational software, computer equipment, and Internet service. Effective as of January 1, 2015, distributions from your Virginia529 inVEST, CollegeAmerica, or CollegeWealth account may cover your student’s laptop (and associated equipment), as long as it is purchased primarily for use by the student beneficiary while attending an eligible educational institution.
