Alyssa Goff, a Robert E. Lee High School graduate from Staunton, always knew she was going to college. Knowing how to pay for it was a different story. Alyssa’s family encountered financial hardship when her mother lost her job, leaving the seven-person household to survive on Alyssa’s father’s income alone. Alyssa thought this put college out of her reach – until she found SOAR Virginia. The program helped make college a reality again, advising her in everything from financial aid to college selection. She now attends George Mason University with plans to graduate a semester early and pursue a career in family law.
