Sharon Lawrence is the Deputy State Comptroller and currently serves as the Acting State Comptroller. Ms. Lawrence is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the Commonwealth’s integrated general ledger and payroll, time management and attendance system; preparation of numerous statewide financial reports, including the Commonwealth’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report; and issuance of statewide policies and procedures. During her 27 years with the Virginia Department of Accounts, she has served in several leadership roles that have allowed her to participate in numerous statewide projects and initiatives.
Prior to joining the Virginia Department of Accounts, Ms. Lawrence worked with the Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts. This role provided exposure to numerous agencies and helped her develop an understanding of the Commonwealth’s diverse operations. Ms. Lawrence holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Emory & Henry College and is an active community volunteer. She is both a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Global Management Accountant. Ms. Lawrence and her husband have two sons and enjoy spending time with family and travel.
